14 November 2015 at a friends house in Chester County, Pennsylvania

I woke up the morning after the Paris terrorist attacks. After reading some of the news reports and checking on my friends staying near Paris, I needed to just sit for a minute and center. I picked up my guitar just to do morning warm ups and freshen up on some music for the upcoming holiday. This tune came to mine. I remember the tune from when I was younger and singing in the church choir. “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent”
The tune turned into a quiet meditation so I got out my laptop and my iRig interface and recorded this track. I used a GarageBand preset called “Sharp Chorus” for the reverb and delay. The guitar was my Martin D-41 with a Dean Markley pickup.
I edited and mastered the original recording using Audacity to remove some digital artifact on the recording because my old laptop’s processor speed was having trouble keeping up.

To me the tune voiced the meditation that I was feeling in the moment and connected with the voices that were cut short or left crying in anguish that night.

Snow Patrol Cover: "Just Say Yes"

1 November 2015 In my home studio

I went to visit my brother in Montpelier on October 16th after spending the weekend doing chores at the family camp on Lake Champlain. My son, Justin, and his partner, Chris, had come up for the weekend to help. My other son, Dan, took a break from his year at Vermont Studio Center and met up with us at the lake for the weekend. After wrapping up the chores we all went to visit my brother and spend the night there.

Dan and I have been playing a minimalist arrangement I came up with for the Snow Patrol song, “Just Say Yes”. This is always a crowd favorite and we have had a few requests to record it. But with Dan spending the year in Vermont there was very little time for us to get together and play let alone studio sessions. We were sitting around my brother’s dining room table and playing some songs after dinner. I reached over and brought up GarageBand on my phone and recorded the two of us playing “Just Say Yes” with the phone sitting on the table between us.

On Halloween night I found some studio time and downloaded the track from my phone and imported it into logic. I added some light reverb and some cello string swell to the chorus to build the crescendo a little more. Since I was playing around with some of the guitar effects in Logic with I thought is would be nice to add a couple of guitar fills.
I hope you like it.
